How do I know if woodworm is still active?
Fresh, clean exit holes and fine powdery frass suggest recent activity, but the only reliable way to confirm a live infestation is a professional inspection. We assess the timber and advise whether treatment is actually needed.
What is the difference between dry rot and wet rot?
Both are caused by fungal decay in damp timber. Dry rot spreads aggressively through timber and masonry and needs prompt, thorough treatment; wet rot stays localised to the damp area. Identifying which you have determines the correct treatment.
Do you have to replace the affected timber?
Not always. Where timber keeps its structural strength it can often be treated in place. Badly decayed sections are cut out and replaced with sound, treated timber.
